How Does Microneedling Work?

During microneedling, tiny needles create microchannels in the skin. These microchannels trigger your skin cells to produce healing and growth factors to repair the damage. The microchannels heal within days, but collagen production continues for several months. 

What to Put on Your Skin After Microneedling

These channels provide beneficial products with direct access to the deeper layers of skin, bypassing the dead layers of surface cells. However, your skin will also be sensitive, so avoid irritating products. Our recommendations include:

  • Apply serums such as hyaluronic acids to keep skin hydrated
  • Use an unscented, hypoallergenic cleanser
  • Avoid products containing fragrances or irritants
  • Do not use exfoliants, scrubs, or alpha or beta hydroxy acids
  • Avoid touching your face 
  • Ask your microneedling provider for product recommendations
  • Wear a gentle but powerful sunscreen daily for at least two weeks

What Results Will I See With Microneedling?

Microneedling results develop over several weeks as your skin cells add new collagen. You can often see brighter, smoother skin within a few weeks. However, full results take up to three months to develop. Skin will continue to become firmer and more even, with visible fading of acne scars, fine lines, and pigmentation issues. 

Most people require a series of three microneedling treatments to achieve their desired results. We will space these treatments four to six weeks apart depending on your skin’s needs. People who want to treat significant textural issues may benefit from a series of six to eight treatments. While results vary, many people have an Eclipse MicroPen® EVO microneedling treatment once a year to maintain their smoother, youthful look. 

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Almost anyone may be a good candidate for microneedling. Unlike many lasers, microneedling is safe for all skin tones.
